Ratan Tata the name that immediately draws recognition from all. The tata group scion earned reverence not only as a successful industrialist but as a great human being and philanthropist. Recognized as the best chairman in India, he always put social and employee welfare above commercial gains.
EARLY LIFE EDUCATION
Ratan Naval Tata (born 28 December 1937) is an Indian industrialist, philanthropist, and a former chairman of Tata Sons. He was also chairman of Tata Group, from 1990 to 2012, and again, as interim chairman, from October 2016 through February 2017, and continues to head its charitable trusts. He is the recipient of two of the highest civilian awards of India, the Padma Vibhushan (2008) and Padma Bhushan (2000).
He studied at the Campion School, Mumbai till the 8th class, followed by Cathedral and John Connon School, Mumbai and at Bishop Cotton School in Shimla, and, in 1955, graduated from Riverdale Country School in New York City. In 1959, he then received a degree in Architecture from Cornell University, and in 1975, attended the seven-week Advanced Management Program of Harvard Business School — an institution which he has since endowed.
This Tata Group ex-chairman was instrumental in the key acquisitions of Tetley, Jaguar Land Rover & Corus, that built a global brand. He is a Padma Bhushan & Padma Vibhushan awardee.

Philanthropist
Ratan Tata is not only a renowned businessman but he is also a philanthropist. More than 65% of his share is invested in charitable trusts. One of the primary goals of his life has been to raise the quality of life of Indians along with human development. A supporter of education, medicine and rural development, Ratan Tata is a leading philanthropist. Tata Education and Development Trust, a philanthropic affiliate of the Tata Group, endowed a $28 million Tata Scholarship Fund that will allow Cornell University to provide financial aid to undergraduate students from India.
In 2010, Tata Group companies and Tata charities donated $50 million for the construction of an executive center at Harvard Business School. In 2014, the Tata Group gave ₹950 million to IIT, Bombay, the largest donation received in its history and formed the Tata Center for Technology and Design to develop design and engineering principles suited to the needs of people and communities with limited resources. The group formed the MIT Tata Center of Technology and Design at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with a mission to address the challenges of resource-constrained communities, with an initial focus on India. This year, he pledged ₹1,500 crore to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
Ratan Tata travels to Pune to meet ailing former employee
Sir Ratan Tata, (83 Years old ) living legend, greatest industrialist visited the friends society in Pune to meet his Ex-Employee all the way from Mumbai who is ailing for last 2 years. This is how legends are made of. The commitment towards loyal employees. There is lot to learn for all that money is not everything all that matters is being great human being. Hats off Sir!! Tata set a perfect example of generosity and leadership
Tata set a perfect example of generosity and leadership during the 26/11 attacks. Unarmed he stood all alone outside the Taj hotel and supervised the activities to help the victims. He showcased his humane gesture by personally visiting the families of all the 80 employees who were killed or injured. He left no stone unturned to provide relief to the victims and even asked the families and dependents as to what they wanted him to do.
The Jaguar Story – Hard work, Dedication, Patience
Tata group launched its passenger car Tata Indica in the year 1998 but Tata Indica was a failure in its first year and the experiment seemed to be failing. Many people started advising Ratan Tata that he should sell the passenger car business. Ratan Tata also agreed to this and a proposal was given to Ford, they showed interest too. The three-hour meeting at Ford headquarters in Detroit, chairman of Ford (Bill Ford) said to Ratan Tata, “why did you enter in the passenger car business when you were not knowing of it. It will be a favour if we buy this business from you”.
Ratan Tata decided to move back home. While traveling, he was very tense as the feeling of being insulted was on his mind.
After earlier failures, Tata Motors and ratan tata worked hard day and night to improve this project and slowly turned down their efforts into success. The result was tata motors did well with its business of passenger cars but in the same period, Ford did very bad. Tata Group offered Ford to buy its luxury car brand, Jaguar-Land Rover. Ford arrived in Mumbai for the meeting. Jaguar- Land Rover is now owned by Tata Group and is currently making profits.
Ratan tata leadership grew the Group’s revenues phenomenally
Under his able leadership, the revenues of the Tata Group grew more than 40 times. The profits abounded by over 50 times. The company that made only $5.7 billion in 1991 made around $103 billion in 2016.
Keen in keeping up promises
Nano cars are the dearest project of Ratan Tata. In 2009, he promised to make a car that would cost only a lakh rupee. He spared the best of his efforts to keep up his promise to society.
It was a great step to make common man happy by making most affordable car . So that everyone can have it.
Simplicity,Ratan Naval tatas first job
Ratan Tata’s first job was at the Tata Steel which he took up in the year 1961. His first responsibility was to manage the blast furnace and shovel limestone.
