Who has the best sense of smell ?

Image
We usually think that animals like dogs, wolves bears have the best sense of smell but in 2014 researchers proved that African elephants have the greatest sense of smell among the mammals. They also beat dogs including the Bloodhound renowned for its sniffing ability. Humans may be the most intelligent creatures on earth but due to thousands of years of evolution some species have developed some uncanny ability.      In all animals the part responsible for the sense of smell are the Olfactory receptors (ORs), also known as odorant receptors. These are in epithelium of nose and provide the sense of smell. They have cilia that contain the receptors in its membrane and can detect specific chemicals.      Researchers examined the olfactory receptor (OR) repertoire encoded in 13 mammalian species and found that African elephants have the largest number of OR genes i.e., around 2000 functional OR genes which is twice that found in dogs and five times more than in humans. This research p

From being one of the cradles of civilization to the cultural powerhouse it is today, The Indian Subcontinent has always had a special tooth in the pages of history. Previously in Meta Blogs, we covered the Mauryan Era. The Indo-Greek rule cannot be pieced together without mentioning its dawn form the Mauryan times. This story starts from  Alexander The Great  and his great conquest. The Macedonian King had conquered his way across the near east and central Asia, and by 325 BC he reached the Indian Subcontinent. Upon his conquest of the region, Alexander created four Satrapies,  Alexandria on the Indus ,  Alexandria on the Caucasus, and Alexandria Eschate  - Alexandria the Furthest. Upon the set-up of these Satrapies, the Greek populous flooded in to occu

DIAMOND CERAMIC COATING ON AUTOMOBILES

Image
What is it? One of the most important factors in maintenance of a car is the exterior look of the car, especially its paint’s shine and gleam. Diamond ceramic coatings impart a color enhancing gloss to the exterior surface and simultaneously protect it from UV rays, chemicals and extreme heat. There are three coats on the surface of a car, innermost is the primer, middle one is a base coat of paint and an outermost clear coat. DIAMOND ceramic coating is applied on the top of clear coat. It’s a very thin coating and it is completely invisible to the naked eye. The diamond coating covers the car in a shell of protection and protects from exterior damage. It enhances the color and look of the car. Diamond makes the car exterior surface to shine more stronger. The coat forms a semi-permanent bond with the surface of the car, so that the coat does not wash away or break down easily over a short period of time and lasts for years. It blends with the paint of your car and creates addi

A visionary who spearheaded development

“IT IS BETTER TO WORK OUT THAN RUST OUT” Let us remember Sir M Vishveshvaraya, the most celebrated engineer of India. The man of action who have contributed immensely in the development of nation, the father of Indian engineering, the Civil Engineer, Scholar, Statesman, Bharat Ratna, Sir Mokshgundam Vishveshvaraya. The name Vishweshwaraya is at the forefront of the list of the world’s greatest engineers and is credited with performing many engineering miracles in the country. He is the most inspiring personality for all engineers who are passionate for their work. Birth and childhood Sir Mokshagundam Vishveshvaraya was born on September 15, 1860, in a Telugu-Brahmin family in the village of Munddenahalli in the state of Mysore. His Parents, (father) Mokshgundanam Srinivasa shastry and (mother)Venkatalakshamma was from the Mokshagundam village. After losing his father at the age of 12, Vishweshwaraya had to endure a lot of hardship to continue his education, as his family facin

Edge Computing

What is Edge Computing? The word edge in this context means a geographic distribution. Edge computing is computing that’s done at or near the source of the data, instead of relying on the cloud at one of a dozen data centres to do all the work. It does not mean that the cloud will disappear. It means the cloud is coming to you. By placing computing services closer to these locations, users benefit from faster and more reliable services. Edge computing is one way that a company can use and distribute a common pool of resources across a large number of locations. Why do we need edge computing? The explosive growth and increasing computing power of IoT devices has resulted in unprecedented volumes of data. And data volumes will continue to grow as 5G networks increase the number of connected mobile devices.  In the past, the promise of cloud and AI was to automate and speed innovation by driving actionable insight from data. But the unprecedented scale and complexity of data that’s cre
