A woman with vision, a lady with passion…
Sudha Narayan Murthy is an Indian author, teacher, social worker, and chairperson of India’s second-largest IT Company. She is also a recipient of one of the highest civilian awards (Padma Shri) in 2006.
Sudha Murthy was born on 19 august 1950 in Shiggaon, Karnataka, as she is a daughter of a surgeon, most of her childhood time was spent with her grandparents. This childhood experience of her life gave her an opportunity to feel and experience the beauty of the real-life world.
These childhood experience, later on, becomes the phenomenal basis for her first notable work, in form of the story entitled “How I taught my grandmother to read” and Broadcast her passion for writing to the world
She completed her B.E in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from B.V.B College of Engineering and Technology Standing 1st in university and getting awarded the gold medal from then chief minister of Karnataka. She also completed her M.E in Computer science from the Indian Institute of Science.
After Completing the M.E, due to her unbridled passion for working in an engineering company, she had written a postcard to the company’s chairman complaining about gender bias, As a result, she was granted a special interview, and became the first female engineer to get hired at India’s largest auto manufacturer and locomotive company (TELCO).
A Life-Changing Advice:-
Sudhaji said that her life was so dramatically changed by the advice she got from J.R.D Tata when she left TELCO to assist and support Narayan Murthy to start up Infosys. He told her to remember that no one is the owner of the money. "You are the only trustee of money and it always changes hands. When you are successful, give it back to the society that gave you so much goodwill" From then, her journey for social contribution Starts…
Today we know her more because of her social contribution, than anything else…

Social Works :
She has started the Infosys foundation which is a public charitable trust in 1996. Through this foundation, she has built up 2,300 houses in the flood-affected areas. Sudhaji’s social contribution is not only limited to one domain, it covers every aspect of society. A healthcare sector, education, empowerment of women, public hygiene, art and culture, and poverty.
Her passion for education has to turn into a the vision of 'a library for each school’, setting up 70,000 libraries till now. She is helping out rural areas by building 16,000 public toilets and several hundred toilets in the city of Bengaluru. The foundation has conducted relief work during national natural disasters like the tsunami in Tamil Nadu and Andaman, earthquake in Kutch – Gujarat, hurricane, and floods in Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, and drought in Karnataka and Maharashtra.
She is also awarded the prestigious literary award, the 'Attimabbe Award' –for her literary work by the government of Karnataka.
