Movements of the past-Voice of Future, by a woman for the society!
Every step walked for justice, every voice raised against injustice will enhance the society with love and peace.
‘Injustice’
is not a new term for a woman whether its sati practices in past or the ongoing
illegal activities in present. But the best part is that for any
injustice on the field there has been always a voice standing against it, eye
to eye, head to head challenging the injustice for a beautiful change! This
voice became the voice of future and an inspiration for all. Some of these
strong and bold voices are here to shake you up with their vibrations….
#Suffrage
Movement:
This
movement specifically refers to the 72 year-long battle for women’s right to
vote in United States. “Social peace and
the welfare of the human race depended upon woman’s staying home, having children
and keeping out of politics”, words of some of the anti-suffragists. Women were allowed to work in factory just
like men – Economical contribution, Women had a strong eye on liquor factories,
food and drug safety, worker-safety – Social Contribution but they were
deprived of their political rights because of the insecurities in the minds of
anti-suffragists.
This
led to the emergence of strong voices all over the nation like Elizabeth Cady
Stanton and Lucretia Mott .They were followed by a number of women whose
endless efforts bought a change in the nation. This change spread all over the
world, and many countries, almost all the countries today, have equal right to
vote irrespective of their biological differences.
#Anti-acid
attack movement:
Laxmi
Agarwal, an acid attack survivor has shown immense courage to not only fight
against the burns of acid but also against the society. The mental trauma that
she has gone through due to our society should not be experienced by any other
acid-attack survivor. So, she co-founded
an organization named Chhanv which helps the acid-attack survivors in
rehabilitation and empowerment. Also they reach out people to create awareness
in society. This voice has the power to shake the Supreme Court of India.
Chhanv
organization has also started #stopacidsale movement and organizes many fashion
shows for acid attack survivors signifying beauty comes from heart and not face.
They have organized TEDx talks as well in many institutes.
‘He
changed my face, not my heart. He threw acid on my face not my dreams.’ – Laxmi
Agarwal.
#Me
Too Movement:
This
movement raises its voice against sexual abuse and sexual harassment by
providing a platform for people to publicize their allegations. Wisely said
that ‘Sympathy is: I know how you feel and Empathy is: I feel how you feel’.
This movement led by Tarana Burke another bold voice aims to empathize and
empower the sexually assaulted people. This campaign runs on social media with
#Me Too.
Facing
sexual abuse as a child and a teenager Tarana Burke felt a strong need for empowering
the victims and empathizing with the survivors. This made her to start
movements like ‘Just Be’ and ‘Me Too’ which has shaken the entire social media
and touched the lives of many victims.
Heard
all these voices?
Now
for any injustice you see, feel or hear let your voice be heard louder than it
should be and strongest it can be!
You
are never alone and would never be, you are power and will always be…..
