MERI AVAAZ ,HI PEHCHAAN HAI

 

“MERI AVAAZ ,HI PEHCHAAN HAI”- Lata Mangeshkar did not just sing these lines, she lived them too. It is deeply saddening for India to lose such a legendary singer-The Queen of Melody, our beloved Lata Didi.

Her legacy of more than 50,000 songs in over 36 regional languages remains untouched. There are so many life lessons to learn from her, a life lived extraordinary.

She inherited the talent of acting from her father and acted in numerous musical plays. But her talent of  singing, her voice, outshined her acting skills.

At the age of 13, she sung her first song for a marathi movie, and her journey of becoming an musical star began… She gave Bollywood its hit songs like Lag Jaa Gale, Tujhe Dekha To Yeh Jaana Sanam, O Paalanhaare and the list goes on.

 

But all this fame and popularity did not come so easy as it looks, she too faced rejections in her early phase of her career. She considered herself an eternal ‘student of music.’  Her dedication and willingness to learn are indeed the qualities that distinguish her from other singers and are worth inculcating for all of us.

 


She moved Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to tears!

An interesting incident, It was a few months after the 1962's Sino-Indian War, on Republic Day (January 26, 1963). This event was held in Delhi where, our Prime minister Jawaharlal nehru and our president Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. Were also present. There were thousands of people gathered for that event. It was the first time she sang the song “Aye Mere Watan Ke Logon”. It is not at all surprising that this song made everyone feel proud, patriotic and grateful to be an Indian.

Our PM with tears in his eyes said  “Those who don’t feel inspired by ‘Aye mere watan ke logon’ don’t deserve to be called a Hindustani.” It takes a lifetime to get such a complement from a natioal authority. Which tells us about her influential aura.

Lata Mangeshkar rightly said in an interview that, “One has to be fully committed to one's career. Otherwise, there's no point.” This makes me intrigued by her passion for her career ,her ambitions and inspires me to stick to my purpose and strie for my ambitions and my passion. I admire her ground to earth personality and in her respect I would like to quote for her these lines by Helen Keller, “The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched -- they must be felt with the heart."
