Live on purpose; direction to life.
When we say direction, what comes to our mind is a compass. Have you ever questioned whether there is a need for purpose in your life? Imagine you are in a rainforest of the amazon deep inside shadows of trees even the sun isn’t reaching the ground, and you are clueless, not knowing what way will lead you out of this darkness. If you had a compass, you wish it would be easier to cross the forest, or I can say you would have a ray of hope to survive.
So how is this situation related to our life? Often, we live our lives drifting, getting by, trying to find comfort and pleasure, doing what we need not have to do, doing things out of habit, getting lost in the busywork, going through the motions, getting caught up in our thoughts, getting lost in distractions, trying to stick to something but then reverting to habitual patterns, dealing with one crisis after another, putting out fires and sweeping up messes of life, dealing tiredness and stress, depression and anxiety, falling behind and getting overwhelmed, struggling and not wanting to face our problems, getting mired in a pit of never-ending tasks, losing our days and weeks because they all blend.
Such is the human condition, and it is beautiful that there is nothing to pity about it. We are quite similar to being caught by a whirlpool of daily messes and trying to put it off.
But what would it be like to live with purpose? To have meaning in the work we do, and to structure our lives with that purpose in mind, and with the most meaningful way to fulfill relationships and activities?
To have an intention to our actions, have a purpose that drives us, to put everything we have into everything we do?
The more we live on purpose and do our best in every single thing, the more meaningful our lives will be.
Not everyone is walking around saying, “Yep, I know exactly what my purpose is in life!” Most people don’t ask the question, and if they do, they might not believe there is such a thing as purpose.
That’s because there isn’t inherently a purpose in our lives — we have to create it. If we don’t, our actions feel drifting and meaningless.
Let’s explore this idea of living on purpose, this could be done as:
1.] Start asking a few questions (inquiry) that open us to thinking about what is meaningful to us.
2.] Start listening rather than giving opinions.
3.] Take action to get clarity. Not necessary to have a complete idea or meaning of life, it’s just a gentle start.
There’s no right way for this process of inquiry, except to turn toward the questions and the possibilities.
Some questions to start you in the process:
1.] What have you done in your life that felt most meaningful? (It doesn’t have to be around studies/academics)
2.] What books have you read, videos watched, courses taken … that lit you up?
3.] When have you worked with people who lift you up?
4.] Who has inspired you the most? Who have you inspired?
Once you have a little clarity (you don’t need very much), you can take some action.
Eventually, you start to have a bigger vision for what you can do with this purpose. Challenge yourself to make it even bigger.
Ways to Live Life with Purpose:
Some people measure success by the wealth they’ve accumulated, the power they’ve attained, or their status. Yet, even though they’ve reached success beyond their wildest dreams, they still have an empty feeling — something is missing from their life. To fill that void and be complete in life, their soul may be searching for something more.
· Live by your beliefs and values:
People who live a life of purpose have core beliefs and values that influence their decisions, shape their day-to-day actions, and determine their short- and long-term priorities. They place significant value on being a person of high integrity and in earning the trust and respect of others. The result is that they live with a clear conscience and spend more time listening to their inner voice than being influenced by others.
· Set priorities:
You identify those activities that matter most to them and spend the majority of their time and effort in those areas. Otherwise, it’s too easy to drift away in the currents of life.
“How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives.”
- ANNIE DILLARD
· Follow your passion:
You wake up each morning eager to face the new day. They pursue their dreams with fervor, put their heart into everything they do, and feel that they’re personally making a difference.
“Dreams are not those that fall you asleep, but dreams are those who don’t let you sleep.”
- DR. A.P.J ABDUL KALAM SIR
· Achieve balance:
They put their hearts into their careers and build relationships with friends and family. They also reserve adequate time to satisfy their personal needs. Achieving balance means living up to one’s potential in all facets of life.
· Feel content:
People who live a life of purpose have inner peace. They’re satisfied with what they have and who they are. To them, the grass is greener on their side of the fence. As the saying goes, “The real measure of your wealth is how much you’d be worth if you lost all your money.”
· Make a difference:
If you have a purpose then you can make a meaningful difference in someone else’s life. They do things for others without expectation of personal gain, serve as exemplary role models, and gain as much satisfaction witnessing the success of others. As the old proverb says,
“A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle.”
Just the way people like Dr. APJ Kalam sir, Swami Vivekanand, Mother Teresa did.
· Live at the moment:
People with purpose cherish every moment and seek to live life without regret. They take joy in the experiences that life gives and don’t worry about keeping score.
“Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.”
- Dr. SUESS
In the end, I would like to say that whenever you have problems in your life, just remember that the universe thinks you’re capable to cope with them. Instead of asking WHY ME?? Just ask, “WHY NOT ME?” this change will give you a purpose in your life😊😊…….
