On March 8th every year, we celebrate International Women's Day, a day dedicated to honouring the social, economic, cultural, and political accomplishments of women. Each year, it has a different theme, and the theme for IWD 2023 is #EmbraceEquity. Women have made tremendous strides in the last century, but we still have a long way to go to achieve true equality.

Women are an integral part of society and have made significant contributions in every field. Despite facing numerous challenges and obstacles, women have persevered and shattered the glass ceiling to make a name for themselves. Despite many challenges, women have made tremendous progress over the last century. Women are breaking barriers and achieving new heights in every field, from politics to science to the arts. Women have made ground-breaking contributions to science, literature, art, and politics.

These women are just a few examples of the incredible contributions that women in India have made to society. But there are countless other women, from all walks of life, who are making a difference every day.

Historically, women have been oppressed and marginalized in many societies. They have been denied basic rights, such as the right to vote and own property, and have been subjected to discrimination and violence. Despite efforts to close the gap, women still earn less than men in most countries around the world. This inequality not only affects women's financial security but also their ability to access healthcare, education, and other basic needs.

Another challenge facing women is the lack of representation in leadership positions. Violence against women is also a significant challenge facing women worldwide. Domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking are just a few of the forms of violence that women face daily. This violence not only harms women physically and emotionally but also limit their ability to participate fully in society.

Despite the progress that has been made, there is still much work to be done to ensure that women have equal opportunities and are treated with dignity and respect. Women continue to face challenges in the workplace, in politics, and in their personal lives. Women of colour, transgender women, and women with disabilities face additional barriers and challenges.

As we celebrate International Women's Day, let us recognize the incredible strength, resilience, and determination of women in India and around the world. Let us honour the contributions that women have made to society and pledge to work towards a future where all women can thrive, free from discrimination and violence. So, on this International Women's Day, let us all choose to challenge gender bias and inequality wherever it exists.
